It uses simple WASD controls with mouse buttons to trigger the excavator, but the camera is controlled with Q and E, and it can take some time to back up and move forward again. This is where Rudy, the mini excavator used to remove intrusive piles of sand, comes in. Rudy is simultaneously straightforward and awkward to use. In this first instance, players are told to refuel the gas pump and open up the station to customers - but there's a small sand dune blocking where cars would pull up. The inventory and tools are accessed through a simple radial menu, while the computer handles larger needs. The computer is where players will go to find information and purchase, upgrades, tools and anything else the need. It's a straightforward system with clearly labelled menus that are easy to navigate. For example, once the pump is up and running, you must fill customer's tanks to a requested fill line by stopping the pump just in time - the closer to the line, the greater the tip. Higher scores may result in making more money or getting things done faster, which means more time for other tasks. Many of the game's tasks are similarly fun little mini-games that add combos, scores and other incentives to encourage players to get better at their job as a gas station owner.
